Hydrop is an advanced wet gas scrubbing technology that removes submicron particulate matter, including heavy metals from stack gases. It does it with less water consumption and energy usage than venturi scrubbers and with a lower investment than required with wet electrostatic precipitators this company says.

Used in a range of particulate generating applications, the system technology maintains nearly constant particulate output, even with varying particulate inlet loading. More importantly, the scrubber system can meet MACT requirements for particulate emissions at 0.015 grains/dscf and remove 99.5% of entrained particulate.

The scrubber system is compact so that a full scale unit can easily be shipped to a customer's site for field testing. It is a completely skid-mounted unit, consisting of a quench tank (if required), and a dynamic/mechanical scrubber with motor, demister, control panel, and associated instrumentation for system control. It uses only 25% of the water required by a venturi scrubber and provides a net pressure increase, instead of the pressure drop associated with venturi scrubbers, the company notes.

Stack gases containing heavy metal particulates, inorganic ash, acid gases, and objectionable odors are adiabatically cooled in the system's optional quench tank. The gases then enter the dynamic/mechanical scrubber, a rotary device consisting of a liquid atomizing impeller housed in an enclosure that incorporates an advanced geometric design. Water is injected into the stack gases and the impeller blades impact and accelerate the gases and water droplets to create a dense aerosol of suspended water droplets. These droplets coat the particles, allowing them to be removed by the demister.

Rheometers for well service users

A special low-range version of a PVS rheometer is available for well servicing operations.

Service companies extracting oil and gas from deep wells are increasingly benefiting from current state-of-the-art ability to predict the viscosity of drilling muds and fracturing fluids at shear rates below 5s-1.

Now, with scientifically repeatable measurements using either this firm's new pressurizable PVS rheometer or a traditional LV viscometer at these lower shear rates, service companies can expect even better fluid performance, the company points out.

Recently, several well service users have shown that the PVS rheometer, when equipped with the optional triple annulus geometry set, also offers performance in the low shear rate range.

The new design, low-maintenance units are available for lease within 48 hr when field emergencies arise. The PVS comes with Hastelloy wetted parts and geometries duplicating the viscosity measurement range of established instruments. Computers and rheometer-controlled baths are also available through the lease program.

Well data software update

An enhanced version of PetroWorks software is designed to bridge the gap between petrophysicists and other members of the asset team.

It offers petrophysical interpretation functionality that is integrated with the OpenWorks relational data base. Through its broad link to OpenWorks, PetroWorks creates a full-featured system that is designed to provide quick and easy interaction with wellbore data and parameters to help manage and interpret well logs and other well data.

PetroWorks' ease of use has been retained, while functionality was added for the experienced petrophysicist. This led to the need for a scalable solution and the introduction of Petro- Works Asset product, which corresponds to the traditional PetroWorks level of functionality. PetroWorks Asset serves the needs of the E&P professional who requires some petrophysical capability in support of the broader interpretation process. The PetroWorks Pro product offers advanced user-programming capabilities for use by petrophysicists, geophysicists, and engineers in developing applications for processing log curve data.
