A new multipoint gas detection system consists of an 8, 16, or 32-point gas-stream selector offering parallel purging of all unsettled lines for rapid response together with a dead volume of only 7.4 ml. The system gives full control over sample sequencing, alarms, and data logging. On-board programming allows up to four analyzers to be selected with two alarm levels for each analyzer on each zone, air pump flow monitoring, and general system monitoring.

Data logging facilities are also included in the system package in the form of an RS232 printer port for connection to a Centronics printer and a 3.5 in. floppy disk drive that data-logs in comma-separated variable format, time-stamped for direct import to a spread sheet.

Pipe stress analysis software has subsea capability

Caesar II pipe stress analysis software now has subsea capability.

This addition to the software helps suit it for any company involved with subsea piping. Caesar II can take into account the effect of waves and currents on the pipe in its analysis and so help to create better designs, the company points out.

Control system for ultradeep water

The EXpress System is an electrohydraulical control system designed to provide emergency shut-in and disconnection of landing strings utilized during subsea completion or well testing operations. Utilizing field-proved components and providing a full emergency response sequence within 15 sec, the system helps eliminate concerns about reliability and speed of shut-down in deepwater well intervention operations.

The system is deployed in conjunction with a subsea test free assembly and is suited for operations from a dynamically positioned vessel. In the event of an emergency during well intervention or testing operations, surface activation causes valves within the test tree to close and provide the primary well control barriers prior to release of the landing string.

Fully adaptable to 3, 5, or 7 in. landing strings, the system provides multifunctionality through hydraulic control to a number of components including the subsea test tree, retainer valve, emergency disconnection latch, and downhole tools. It can also be configured to provide a fully integrated control system incorporating operation of the tubing hanger running tool functions.
