Israel
Isramco Inc., Houston, said a seismic survey mapped a number of gas prospects on the southern part of the Med Yavne Marine license which it operates in the Mediterranean.
Isramco recommended that the seven partners approve drilling of the Or 1 exploratory well to 6,500 ft some 22 miles northwest of Ashkelon in 213 ft of water. This site is near the Noa 1 discovery that a group in which Isramco is not a member tested at 30 MMcfd of gas in June (see map, OGJ, July 5, 1999, p. 29).
Isramco recommended using the rig that in late August had reached 8,300 ft at the Yam West 2 well without encountering hydrocarbons and was about to penetrate the main target. It is projected to 11,483 ft in 2,461 ft of water.
Montana
K2 Energy Corp., Calgary, was completing three wells that established the presence of hydrocarbons on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
The third well, 2 Osprey, in Glacier County, cut 25 ft of net pay in Cretaceous Virgelle sandstones and has pipe set at 4,800 ft. Average porosity is 14%, water saturation 45%.
Virgelle joins shallower Cretaceous Horsethief and Two Medicine as productive in the program, 35 miles west of Cut Bank oil field (OGJ, Sept. 13, 1999, p. 107).
The wells are within 8 miles of a gas transmission line with available capacity. The Triangle Zone play extends 60 miles across the reservation, where K2 and partner Miller Exploration Co., Traverse City, Mich., plan to start a multiwell development program.
Texas
Carrizo has spudded 12 gross wells since July 1, nine of which are in the program with Palace. Eight of the first 10 have logged apparent pay and are completed or being completed, two are drilling, and two were unsuccessful.
The apparently successful wells are in Matagorda, Starr, and San Patricio counties.
They planned to spud the 1-45 Colton-Williams to 7,500 ft in the field in Edwards County in mid-September. The field, operated by Tesoro Petroleum Corp., produces 30 MMcfd of gas from 10 wells and has an estimated 75 bcf of reserves, Blue Ridge said.
Objectives are Pennsylvanian Strawn at 5,000-7,000 ft and Canyon at 2,500-4,500 ft.
Blue Ridge and associates control about 2,000 acres in the area. Bergstein committed to a partnership that includes development of all of Blue Ridge's acreage plus adjoining properties that Bergstein controls.
Bergstein holds about 200,000 acres in Edwards and Val Verde counties.
Wyoming
Ultra Petroleum Corp. and others are proceeding with an 85 sq mile 3D seismic survey of the northern Pinedale anticline in the Green River basin.
The survey is to investigate the extent of the Upper Cretaceous Lance formation in 32n and 33n-109w, Sublette County, also known as the Mesa area. Acquisition of the full long offset-full azimuth-high fold data was to be completed by Nov. 15.
Results will guide wellsite selection for drilling planned in 2000 by Ultra and partners Questar Exploration & Production Co., Anschutz Wyoming Co., and Western Gas Resources Inc.'s Lance Oil & Gas Co. unit.
