Petroleum hydrocarbon bioremediation

As an extension of its environmental product line, this firm has developed and introduced Petrox, a patented microbial product designed for fast, effective bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons.

Petrox is composed of patented strains of live vegetative microorganisms that are freeze dried and stabilized.

With this process and handling procedure, only living bacteria are applied to the contaminated area, thus eliminating guesswork and ensuring fast cleanup of the site.

Because Petrox cultures are harvested and placed in suspended animation at their hungriest stage, they go to work immediately, without presoaking and waiting.

Biodegradation with Petrox helps eliminate the liability and cost of hauling material to hazardous waste disposal sites, and helps meet soil/groundwater remediation requirements.

New system monitors valve performance over internet

The new Field Browser system makes it possible to monitor smart field instruments for operation status and performance changes from any computer with an intranet or internet connection. An on-line intranet/internet connection to valves, as well as instrument products, systematically detects status changes and sends priority warnings to plant personnel via web page, e-mail, or mobile phone before processes are disturbed.

Field Browser monitors each field instrument connected to it via a HART multiplexer network. The system collects messages and converts them to an html document that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. The collected information is stored in a data base, which serves as an information bank that a customer can use to evaluate and develop a current or historical perspective on an individual valve`s performance.

The system identifies most valve problems long before they can disrupt the process. In the event of a field instrument error or failure, a warning is immediately sent to a web page, e-mail, or one of many other possible destinations. Typical errors include a valve not following a predetermined control signal or failure of a positioner to operate.

For more in depth insight into the nature of a problem, the valve can be accessed and remote diagnostics performed through any computer linked to your intranet using Valve Manager software.

Portable gas analyzer

The new Gasmet Dx-4000 portable, multicomponent gas analyzer features small size (18 by 18 by 9 in.) and light weight (31 lb).

Its mobility is enhanced by its rugged design, stable interferometer, rapid deployment and setup, and optional 12 v dc operation, the maker points out.

The unit can simultaneously detect and analyze as many as 30 inorganic or organic gases or vapors in 1 sec. It has a wide dynamic range, measuring concentration levels from ppm to percent.

The unit has a temperature controlled gas sample cell, which can be heated up to 200? C.-eliminating condensation and complying with EPA FTIR methods. The gas cell`s long-term corrosion resistance enables continuous monitoring of hot, wet, corrosive samples.
