Phillips Petroleum Co. U.K. Ltd. has begun the search for a front-end engineering and design contractor for the development of its Jade discovery in the U.K. North Sea. Block 30/2c Jade is a high-pressure/high-temperature discovery made in March 1996 and appraised with one well in early 1997 (OGJ, Mar. 17, 1997, p. 36).

The find lies in 250 ft of water, and Phillips intends to develop it with an unmanned wellhead platform tied back with a 16-in. multiphase pipeline to its Judy platform, which lies 12 miles to the south.

Phillips did not disclose its estimate of reserves or of development costs, but said the appraisal well tested at a combined rate of 91 MMcfd of gas and 9,700 b/d of condensate.

V.R. Chamberlain, president of Phillips Europe, said, "Since Jade was discovered, we have been working very closely with our co-venturers to identify the most effective way forward for this project, in order to bring the field on stream as quickly as possible. It is anticipated that first production from Jade would begin by the fourth quarter of 2001."

Block 30/2c interest holders are operator Phillips 32.5%, BG Explo- ration & Production Ltd. 35%, Texaco North Sea U.K. Co. 15.4%, Texaco Britain Ltd. 10%, and OMV (U.K.) Ltd 7.1%.
