Work barge ready for gulf work

J. Ray McDermott Inc., Morgan City, La., has upgraded its Derrick Barge 16 to take advantage of construction opportunities in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Modifications to DB16 include installation of: four constant-pitch, 2,000-hp, DC-driven azimuthing thrusters; a dual-redundant dynamic positioning system; and a power generation module consisting of four 2,800-hp, 16-cylinder ALCO diesel engine generators, along with AC switchgear and MCC/SCR control house. The modified barge underwent sea trials in this summer in the Gulf of Mexico. Photo courtesy of J. Ray McDermott Inc. Copyright 1997 Oil & Gas Journal. All Rights Reserved.
