Although the study addresses mechanical connectors' use in any environment, connectors are being looked at by offshore operators as a means to minimize pipeline-installation costs, especially in deepwater. The joint industry project, dubbed "Low Cost Pipeline Connection Systems," does not compare available connectors but was initiated to specify criteria that operators can use to qualify connectors for use.
