Mobil Erdgas-Erdol GmbH, a Mobil Corp. unit operating in Germany, has claimed a world depth mark for a horizontal well at a drillsite about 40 miles southwest of Hamburg.
Mobil drilled Z-10 Soehlingen to a record 15,688 ft true vertical depth, cutting 2,066 ft of horizontal hole in Permian Rotliegendes tight sand pay. The well went to 18,860 ft measured depth.
Mobil also claimed a world depth record for multiple hydraulic fracturing. Stimulation amounted to four frac jobs in the horizontal section's tight gas sand.
Tests, which began in January, show economic production rates "from a natural gas reservoir which couldn't have been opened without this technology"
Mobil said the well also set depth records for coring and logging, cased and cemented horizontal hole, largest casing-7 in.-run to total depth, perforating that included overbalanced shooting, multiple packers and sliding side door, and heavy duty coiled tubing operations.
The well required nonstandard completion equipment and techniques because of high pressure, 9,000 psi, and temperature, 290 F.
Halliburton Energy Services provided the main well services. Participating service companies included Itag Drilling Co., Baker-Hughes Inteq, and Schlumberger.
Mobil, with a 30% interest in the well, operates for partners BEB Erdgas und Erdol GmbH and RWE-DEA AG 30% each and Wintershall AG 10%.
