Petrolchemie und Kraftstoffe AG, Schwedt (PCK Schwedt) let two contracts to Edeleanu GmbH, Alzenau, Germany, for construction of a methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) complex and butane isomerization unit at its Schwedt, Germany, refinery.r

The 84,000 metric ton/year (2,000 b/d) MTBE plant will process the C4 stream from a fluid catalytic cracking unit. Contracts include a butane isomerization unit, selective hydrogenation unit, and oxygenate removal unit.

Also included is grant of license rights through Edeleanu for the MTBE complex processes. The MTBE synthesis unit will use the RWE-DEA/Edeleanu process. Institut Francaise du Petrol's selective hydrogenation process will be used, as will UOP's oxygenate removal process.

The isomerization unit will employ UOP's Butamer process.

Edeleanu will be responsible for basic, authority, and detail engineering, including procurement, construction management, and commissioning. The MTBE complex is scheduled for completion at yearend 1994, the isomerization unit in summer 1995.
