Trident NGL Inc., Woodlands, Tex., has boosted its ranking among U.S. natural gas liquids producers with three recent purchases. The company bought two gas gathering operations which, with another gathering operation obtained in August, will hike Trident's NGL production by 10% to 66,000 b/d. The transactions, with a combined value of about $50 million, move Trident from ninth to seventh among large U.S. NGL producers.

In a sale that closed Nov. 16, the company bought from Chevron U.S.A. Inc.'s Warren Petroleum Co. the Breckenridge and Shackelford gas processing plants in Stephens and Shackleford counties, Tex., respectively, and the J.H. Taylor Gas Co., which operates in Young County, Tex.

Trident pegged inlet capacity for each plant at 15 MMcfd. The Shackelford plant's associated gas gathering system covers 175 miles, the Breckenridge system 325 miles. Taylor's gas gathering system spans 300 miles.

Trident plans to consolidate those facilities into its nearby Flatrock and Graham gas processing plants, both in Young County, increasing its NGL production there by 3,200 b/d.

In Oil & Gas journal's annual Gas Processing Report (OGJ, July 20, p. 45), Trident reported the Flatrock plant's inlet capacity for 1991 as 10 MMcfd and said it processed 7.3 MMcfd.

Volumes for the Graham plant are 7 MMcfd capacity and 3.9 MMcfd throughput for 1991.

In a sale completed Oct. 30, Trident purchased from ARCO Oil & Gas Co. the Covington gas processing plant and associated gathering system in Garfield County, Okla.

The plant has inlet capacity of 15 MMcfd and an associated gathering system of 350 miles. The plant and pipeline system are near Trident's Rodman gas processing plant in Garfield County, Okla., and its Garrett gas processing plant in Kay County, Okla.

Covington facilities will be folded into the Rodman plant, increasing NGL production by 1,400 b/d. For 1991, the Rodman plant processed 25.3 MMcfd on capacity of 40 MMcfd.

In a sale completed last summer, Trident bought all of Oryx Energy Co.'s and Sun Operating LP's interests in the Rodman plant. That move increased Trident's ownership in the plant to 100% from 50%.

The plant produces 1,300 b/d.

Trident was formed in August 1991 by Hicks, Muse & Co. Inc., Dallas, to acquire the NGL assets of Occidental Petroleum Corp.
