HUNT TO START UP ANOTHER THREE YEMENI FIELDS

June 17, 1991
Yemen Hunt Oil Co. plans to start full production in mid 1994 from three gas/condensate fields it found in Yemen in 1989-91. Production tests are to begin late in 1992 at an initial gas cycling rate of 30-40 MMcfd from Al-Raja, Dostour Al-Wihdah, and Al-Saidah fields. Full production will commence upon completion of a 400 MMcfd gas processing plant in nearby Asaad Al-Kamil field, which started production in August 1990. Those volumes aren't disclosed.

In addition to the gas processing plant at Asaad AlKamil, Yemen Hunt is expanding gas processing capacity at the central production complex in Alif field to 800 MMcfd from 400 MMcfd.

Plans call for exporting condensate produced from the three fields and reinjecting dry gas after recovering propane and butane for delivery to the Yemeni government. Studies of possible markets for the dry gas are under way. Expected volumes of liquids production and recovery aren't disclosed.

COMMERCIAL FIELDS

The Yemeni government last month declared the three new fields commercial.

That brings to 11 the number of commercial oil and gas fields on the Yemen Exploration & Production Co. (YEPC) production sharing agreement (PSA) area in Yemen. YEPC is a joint venture of operator Yemen Hunt 51% and Exxon Yemen Inc. 49%. A South Korean group led by Yukong Ltd. also owns an interest in the PSA.

The three new fields hold about 4.5-6 tcf of gas in place.

Total gas discovered in the PSA totals about 13-15 tcf in place, Yemen Hunt said. It didn't disclose recoverable reserves.

Yemen Hunt, a unit of Hunt Oil Co., Dallas, drilled seven successful wells in Al-Raja, two in Dostour Al-Wihdah, and one in Al-Saidah, all in the northeast corner of Marib PSA.

Al-Saidah was discovered in January 1989, Al-Al-Raja in December 1989, and Dostour Al-Wihdah in February 1991.

YEPC is producing from five other fields in Yemen: Azal oil and gas field, discovered in January 1987, and Raydan, Jabal Nuqum, Saif Ben The-Yazen, Al-Shura, and Al-Wihdah oil fields, all discovered during August 1986-November 1989.
