Jan. 8, 1990
A Santos Ltd. partnership plans to begin producing a Southwest Queensland oil discovery in February. The 1 Bowen, drilled on the Naccowlah block of the ATP 259P license area, flowed 3,400 b/d of 44 gravity oil through a 1/2 in. choke on drillstem test of Jurassic Adori sandstone at 5,4845,514 ft. Oil shows also were present in Jurassic Hutton and Westbourne sands, which will be evaluated by testing before the well is cased and completed.

John Armstrong, Santos executive general manager for exploration, said other prospects in the region of the Bowen discovery have been identified, two of which will be tested this year.

Production from 1 Bowen will begin with the oil trucked about 12 miles to Watson, where it will be delivered to the Jackson-Moonie pipeline. A pipeline connection for the well is expected.

Santos holds a 48% interest in the well.

Its partners are Claremont Petroleum NL, Ampol Exploration Pty. Ltd., and Oil Co. of Australia NL.
