Total subsidiary Total Exploration & Production Angola began production of CLOV in June 2014 from four different fields (Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea, and Violeta) in 1,100-1,400 m of water on Block 17, 140 km off Luanda (OGJ Online, June 12, 2014; Aug. 11, 2010).

Comprised of 19 producing wells, 15 water injection wells, and eight manifolds, the four-field development produces 32-35° gravity oil from Oligocene reservoirs in Cravo and Lirio and a 20-30° gravity, more viscous oil from Miocene reservoirs in Orquidea and Violeta. The fields deliver via 180 km of subsea pipelines to the 160,000-b/d CLOV floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel where they are commingled and processed in a single train before storage.

Operated by Total Exploration & Production Angola, the CLOV floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel began producing oil on June 12, 2014, from 34 wells at Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea, and Violeta fields in 1,100-1,400 m of water on Block 17, 140 km off Luanda. With a production capacity of 160,000 b/d and storage capacity of 1.8 million bbl of oil, the CLOV FPSO uses a subsea multiphase pump system to accommodate production and comingled processing of lighter oil from Oligocene reservoirs and more viscous oil from Miocene reservoirs. With proved and probable reserves that exceed 500 million bbl, Block 17-which also includes Girassol, Dalia, and Pazflor fields-had reached a cumulative production of 2 billion bbl as of May 2015.

Total operates Block 17 with 40% interest alongside Statoil ASA, 23.33%; Esso Exploration Angola Block 17 Ltd., 20%; and BP Exploration Angola Ltd., 16.67%. Angola's state-owned Sonangol is the concessionaire of the license.
