New stage multiplier

The new RepeaterPORT sleeve enables fracturing of as many as 60 stages per lateral.

The company says that operators can increase stage numbers, increase ultimate recovery, and increase ball seat size, which reduces friction pressures allowing for higher rate treatments.

The sleeve increases the number of stages available in the StackFRAC HD system. By using the same size ball, the RepeaterPORT sleeve multiplies the number of available stages that can be fractured allowing for optimization of fracture crews and the use of less fracture fluid. There are a variety of ball seat sizes, allowing numerous stages to be run in sequence.

New PDC cutter

The ONYX II premium polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) cutter is available to the industry.

The company says that the ability of its cutter to retain a sharp edge enables it to drill more efficiently in the harshest formations.

The original ONYX cutter made a significant contribution to PDC bit performance. The ONYX II premium cutter is synthesized using manufacturing techniques that includie a proprietary two-step process that gives the new cutter superior abrasive wear and resistance to thermal degradation when compared with prior generations of PDC cutter technology. The cutter is designed to resist the spalling and chipping that shortens the life of other hard formation drillbits.

To evaluate the improved wear characteristics of the new PDC cutters, a controlled laboratory comparison was conducted on granite. The new PDC cutters showed a 20% reduction in wear flat area with minimal chipping and degradation, as measured against the earlier ONYX PDC cutters.

In Sublette County, Wyo., a 6-in. MDi516 bit equipped with the new ONYX II cutters outperformed an offset well drillbit fitted with ONYX cutters, the prior generation PDC cutter. The firm says that a notable 4,775 ft was drilled in 78.5 hr at a rate of 60.8 fph, compared with 3,900 ft drilled in 79.4 hr at an average rate of 49.1 fph.
