SOFTWARE HELPS AUTOMATE PRESSURE CALIBRATION PROCESS

New COMPASS for Pressure 3.0 software helps calibration specialists organize and accelerate the task of calibrating pressure devices.

The company calls it a universal platform for all pressure calibration software needs. It provides an off-the-shelf software tool to maximize the automation of calibration and testing processes. It integrates calibration functions with pressure-specific factors.

The calibration software enables advancement from individual automated hardware components to a fully automated calibration system quickly, without consuming internal engineering resources.

Software is structured around the unit under test and test definitions. The unit under test definitions identify devices to be tested with all their characteristics. Test definitions define test sequences and all the details of test execution. The pressure reference devices, data acquisition equipment, and auxiliary measurement and control devices available to COMPASS software are set up and stored in a hardware database. All DH Instruments devices and many commonly used data acquisition products are already set up as examples to simplify the implementation of test hardware. Users can change hardware selections without programming or interfacing skills.

COMPASS for Pressure 3.0 is available in two versions. One performs basic calibration and testing on units under test, even those that may have complex outputs. The enhanced version supports complex tests, including custom user macros within the test sequence and multiple outputs from a single unit under test. Each version is available for a single user or for a multiuser work site.

NEW SOFTWARE SUPPORTS LOW FREQUENCY SEISMIC

The newly launched RioGrande program is an advanced data management and visualization solution for low frequency (LF) seismic surveys.

It provides LF survey users with an integrated tool set that helps simplify the management and analysis of LF seismic data. It includes a variety of data-specific viewers, including a 3D map viewer, a measurement time line viewer, an image viewer, a raw data trace viewer, and a synchrogram viewer.

Exploration and exploitation teams can seamlessly browse, search, and view all their LF seismic acquisition and processing data—everything from survey points through to quality assessments and spectrograms—for each recorded measurement. The integration of external information, such as facility locations and earthquake events, provides the operator with a rich data set for interpretation. For example, an interpreter can efficiently locate LF seismic anomalies within the data set then go back to the base data to verify and understand the origin of the feature. Interpreters can also quantify how changes to the processing parameters alter the final result.

NEW WATER JACKET MOTOR DESIGNED FOR DRILLING RIGS

This new water jacket AC drilling motor is a completely enclosed, water-cooled and flameproof AC version designed for drawworks and top drive applications for drilling rigs onshore and offshore.

The new motor is cooled by circulating water instead of utilizing a blower. The new design is intended to allow the motor to be completely enclosed against moisture and air circulation, which protects windings from wetness, dust, and other irritants. It also produces less noise, which may alleviate health and safety concerns relating to noise on drilling rigs, the company points out. The new water jacket motor is cooled through the shaft of the units, as well as the frame.

The firm says it has designed a motor that has the potential to offer increased reliability especially in extreme weather conditions. The elimination of the blower is intended to decrease noise on the rig for a more appealing work environment, the firm notes.

The new water jacket motor has a 50% smaller envelope and the same footprint as current IP56 motors. The motor provides the same interfaces for installation allowing the motors to be retrofitted on current installations where additional axial length is available.
