Calgary independents have spud the first well in a five-well exploratory drilling program in the Boise basin.

Bridge Resources Corp. and Paramax Resources Ltd. said the Bridge-Paramax M.L. Investments-1 well has a planned total depth of 7,000 ft with an estimated drilling time of 25 days. The five wells are to be drilled in 4 months at a combined cost of $5 million.

Reservoir targets in the Boise basin are Pliocene and Miocene sands that have flowed gas at rates of as much as 400 Mcfd in old wells. Oil shows were recorded in deeper wells, and condensate was recovered with one of the shallow gas flows (OGJ Online, Sept. 7, 2009). Gas in the earlier Boise basin wells analyzed sweet.

The companies target gas sands to 4,000 ft and oil sands at 5,000-7,000 ft.

The five prospects are in Payette County, Ida., in the agricultural flat plain of the Snake River and its associated tributaries. Alluvial fill masks the subsurface geological structure. The drillsites are based on reprocessed seismic and geological information from previous wells. The prospects are structural closures of sands draped over volcanic basement fault blocks. They are near a regional gas pipeline and local transmission lines.

Bridge-Paramax calls the first location its Willow site in NE NW 10-8n-4w NE NW. The other spots are Plymouth site, Espino 1-2, NE SE 2-7n-4w; Hamilton site, State 1-17, NE NW 17-7n-4w; Raymer site, Schwarz 1-10, NE NE 10-8n-2w; and Bolton site, Island Capitol 1-19, C SE 19-9n-3w.

All locations are northwest of Boise in Payette County and are platted from the Boise Meridian. Idaho law provides that depths and other strategic information be held confidential for 1 year from the day an operator files a completion report.

Gas demand of 35 bcf/year in greater Boise is being met by out-of-state supply.

Bridge-Paramax hold 50-50 working interest in 100,000 acres in Idaho and Oregon. Four wells are on private fee acreage, and one is on state land. Net revenue interest is mostly 82.5%.
