Gazprom unveiled in September 2005 a short list of five foreign companies being considered as partners in Shtokmanovskoye, a supergiant gas-condensate field located in 350 m of water in the central part of the Barents Sea some 555 km east of Murmansk (see map, OGJ, Sept. 4, 2006, p. 70).“Shtokman” clearly is a prize worth seeking. Its reserves are estimated at 3.7 trillion cu m of gas (131 tcf)-increased from 3.2 trillion cu m by the Russian Federation Nature Ministry’s State Commission for Mineral Reserves in January 2006-and 31 million tonnes of gas condensate.
