Total SA named Charles Mattenet senior vice-president, Asia and Far East, a position formerly held by Michel Seguin, who was promoted to senior vice-president, Americas.

Total SA named Charles Mattenet senior vice-president, Asia and Far East, a position formerly held by Michel Seguin, who was promoted to senior vice-president, Americas.

Mattenet served in various positions since joining the group’s research and development department in 1973. He was a member of the group management committee; senior vice-president, strategy, business development, and research; North Sea division director; development manager; negotiator for international new ventures; operations manager in Cameroon; and production superintendent in Indonesia.

Seguin, who joined the group in 1972, has served as head of exploration and production development studies in Paris, general manager in China and in Egypt, and operations manager in Abu Dhabi and has worked in various positions in Indonesia.

Separately, Philippe Armand was named general manager of Total E&P Indonesia, Jakarta. He has served as vice-president, Americas; director of refining in Germany and in Congo; and operations director in Great Britain and in Angola. Armand joined Total in 1972 in the negotiations and agreements department.

Lawrence J. Finn was named chief executive of Terax Energy Inc., Dallas. In addition to his current appointment, Finn, who served as the company’s interim chief executive since November 2005, will continue to serve as chief financial officer.

Prior to joining Terax, Finn, a 37-year industry veteran, worked with Petrol Oil & Gas, Las Vegas, where he served as vice-president of finance and chief financial officer.

Previously, Finn served as vice-president of finance and as coordinator of shale projects for CDX Gas LLC, Dallas. He has also served as vice-president of finance and chief financial officer of Wiser Oil Co., CWF Energy Inc., Verado Energy Inc., and May Petroleum Inc.

Rick Webber was named president and chief executive of Austral Pacific Energy Ltd.

Webber, a New Zealander with 30 years of experience in the international oil and gas industry, has worked in the Middle East, the Far East, the UK, Australia, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand. He has held a variety of technical and executive roles with Schlumberger, BP PLC, and Fletcher Challenge Energy.

Quest Oil Corp. Chief Operating Officer William Stinson was appointed president and chief executive officer. He succeeds Cameron King.

Stinson has more than 28 years of oil and gas experience.

Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, appointed Michael B. Walen senior vice-president and chief operating officer.

Prior to his appointment, Walen was Cabot’s senior vice-president, E&P. He has worked with Cabot for 18 years.

Swift Energy Co., Houston, appointed Ed Duncan vice-president, exploration.

With more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas business, Duncan has provided geological and geophysical consulting services to Swift Energy for the past 2 years.

Duncan has managed E&P activities in the Gulf of Mexico and has handled regional Gulf Coast resource assessments, including onshore deep gas resource evaluation projects.

Prior to joining Swift, Duncan served as president of Beta4 Exploration & Production Consultants Inc. He also held positions at the Bureau of Economic Geology (University of Texas at Austin), BP Exploration Co., Sohio Petroleum Corp., and US Mineral Corp.

Tullow Oil PLC appointed Angus McCoss as general manager, exploration, a new role effective Apr. 30.

McCoss has more than 19 years of exploration experience. He recently served as Royal Dutch Shell PLC’s general manager of exploration in Nigeria.

Max Petroleum PLC, a UK oil and gas exploration and development firm with an initial focus in Kazakhstan, appointed Tim Whittaker as drilling manager. Whittaker has more than 30 years of international exploration and development operations experience with major and independent producers. He was drilling manager for Maersk Oil in Kazakhstan during 2002-04.
