The government issued preliminary approval for a unit of Cygam Energy Inc., Calgary, to explore the 83,264-acre Aretusa Permit (d348 C. .R.-VG) on the Ragusa plateau in the Mediterranean southeast of Sicily.

The government issued preliminary approval for a unit of Cygam Energy Inc., Calgary, to explore the 83,264-acre Aretusa Permit (d348 C.R.-VG) on the Ragusa plateau in the Mediterranean southeast of Sicily.

Other companies have expressed interest in participating with Cygam’s Vega Oil SPA on Aretusa, the company’s fifth permit in Italy.

Targets include Upper Triassic Taormina carbonate and Lower Jurassic Inici carbonates.

Reprocessing of existing seismic data and more seismic data acquisition will follow pending final ministerial approval.

Louisiana

Cimarex Energy Co., Denver, reported a discovery at its 100% owned Cherokee Creek prospect on the Camerina-Miogyp Trend in north-central Vermilion Parish.

It turned the Donald Harrington-1 exploratory well to sales in mid-January 2006 at the rate of 26 MMcfd of gas and 150 b/d of condensate with 8,300 psi FTP from an undisclosed interval.
