Argentina has several existing and planned polymer projects that were not included in Oil & Gas Journal’s enhanced oil recovery survey (OGJ, Apr. 17, 2006, p. 37). The operator of the projects is Tecpetrol, an Argentine oil and gas exploration and production company that is part of the energy division of the Techint Group.

In Argentina, Tecpetrol operates 12 blocks in the San Jorge, Noroeste, and Neuquina basins and says its most important fields are El Tordillo in the Gulf of San Jorge basin and Aguarague in the Noroeste basin of the central area. The company also operates the Colon Unit in the Maracaibo basin in Venezuela; the Bermejo block in the Oriental basin in Ecuador, and the Misión block in the Burgos basin in Mexico.

Its nonoperating interests include the Ipati exploratory area of the Tarija basin in Bolivia; the Ramos area of the Noroeste basin in Argentina, and Blocks 88 (Camisea) and 56 (Pagoreni) in Peru.

The company’s polymer injection activity is in the El Tordillo and Jose Segundo fields in the Gulf of San Jorge basin. It has operated the Jose Segundo field since the late 1980s and the El Tordillo since mid-1991.
