PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Exxel Energy names president, CEO

Exxel Energy Corp., Houston, has appointed Clifford V. Adams as the company's president and chief executive.

Exxel Energy Corp., Houston, has appointed Clifford V. Adams as the company’s president and chief executive. Exxel’s current Chairman, Chief Executive, and Pres. John R. Hislop will remain as chairman.

Adams brings to the position more than 20 years of experience in the upstream oil and natural gas industry, with a background of 14 years of investment banking in the energy sector, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance.

Most recently Adams served as head of the global oil and gas group for Macquarie Securities (USA) Inc. Prior to that he held various senior investment banking positions with Banc of America Securities, Petrie Parkman & Co., and Energy Capital Solutions.

Before his career in investment banking, Adams worked for 8 years as a reservoir engineering consultant and in various capacities as a petroleum engineer for a medium-sized independent and a large oil and gas service company.

Other moves

Maverick Oil & Gas Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., appointed James A. Watt chairman and chief executive officer. Watt succeeds V. Ray Harlow, who has resigned.

Most recently Watt served in similar positions with Remington Oil & Gas Corp. Watt led Remington for 9 years.

Previously, Watt worked with Amoco Corp., Union Texas Petroleum Corp., Nerco Oil & Gas Corp., and Seagull Energy Corp.

El Paso Corp. promoted James C. Yardley to executive vice-president of the company and president of its pipeline group. Yardley currently is president of Southern Natural Gas Co.

Yardley will retain that role as well as assume responsibility for the management of all of El Paso’s pipeline and related activities.

Yardley has a 28-year career with El Paso, which includes various corporate, marketing, and pipeline responsibilities.
