Kazakhstan is a large, remote, and sparsely populated region that serves as a land bridge between Europe and Asia.Considered a moderate, pro-Western, secular Muslim state, Kazakhstan continues to have high levels of bureaucracy, evolving petroleum legislation, and persistent corruption. Kazakhstan seeks to secure investment while retaining control of the sector, but there is no agreement on how this can be accomplished.Because of the uncertain and risky business environment, a high-risk premium is placed on investment capital.
