Repsol YPF, Madrid, made gas discoveries on two blocks in the Neuquen basin.
A discovery well on the Rincón del Mangrullo block flowed 4.2 MMcfd, while a discovery on the Piedra Chenque block flowed 10.9 MMcfd. Repsol did not disclose producing formations or depths.
Repsol noted that the find on Piedra Chenque is the first to be made on blocks recently tendered in the province. The block is adjacent to Repsol-operated Cerro Bandera, Portezuelo Mines, and Octágono Fiscal, facilitating rapid production start-up.
Processing and interpretation of 3D seismic data at Repsol's Neuquen visualization center led to the discoveries, the company said.
Indonesia
Indonesia awarded units of Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Bhd. rights to two blocks in the eastern Java Sea.
Indonesia's state owned BPMIGAS approved acquisition by Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn. Bhd. of BP (Muriah) Ltd.'s entire equity in the Muriah Block PSC.
Muriah, 200 km northeast of Semarang in central Java, contains fully appraised Kepodang field with reserves estimated at more than 400 bcf of gas. Discovered in the early 1980s, Kepodang's reservoir is in Miocene at about 2,000 ft subsea. The field is strategically located to supply gas to PT Indonesia Power's 1,320-Mw Tambak Lorok power plant at Semarang, Petronas said.
Meanwhile, BPMIGAS awarded Petronas Carigali (North East Madura IV) Ltd. the Northeast Madura Offshore Block IV.
The Petronas unit will acquire, process, and interpret 500 sq km of offshore 3D seismic data, drill four exploration wells, and conduct geological and geophysical studies on the block.
The awards brought the Petronas portfolio in Indonesia to eight blocks, two of which are producing.
Louisiana
A well in the Bethany-Longstreet field area of DeSoto Parish showed more than 300 ft of net potential pay in five horizons on open hole logs.
Initial flow rate at the 1-25 Moseley is 1.2 MMcfd of gas with 750 psi flowing casing pressure on a 1/2 in. choke from Jurassic Lower Cotton Valley within 72 hr of a frac treatment. A potential test is to be taken in 2-4 weeks after the zone has cleaned up, said participant Cubic Energy Inc., Dallas.
