Costs for six selected equipment items used in refining construction operations have been surveyed for the 3 years, 2002-04.

The accompanying table shows Nelson-Farrar equipment indexes for these items.

Bubble trays showed the greatest increases in cost, rising from 1,079.2 in the first quarter of 2002 to 1,411.3 in the last quarter of 2004.

Four other items showed more modest increases. The tanks and pressure vessels category rose from 779.3 to 924.9 during the 36-month span. Tube stills increased from 374.9 to 549.9. Valves and fittings showed an index gain from 1,590.4 to 1,682.1. Fractionating towers showed a 197-point gain, increasing from 926.5 to 1,124.1 over the 3-year period.

The final category, nonmetallic building materials, showed the least gain during the data-compilation period. Beginning index value was 784.7, while the final value was 843.0.
