Newfield Exploration names new chairman

Houston-based Newfield Exploration Co. named David A. Trice to the additional role of chairman. The announcement was made by Newfield's founder and outgoing chairman, Joe B. Foster.

Trice will add the additional responsibilities of chairman to his current position as president and CEO.

Other upstream moves

Simon Lockett, currently director of operations for Premier Oil PLC, London, will succeed Charles Jamieson, CEO, when he retires in June 2005.

Lockett joined Premier from Royal Dutch/Shell Group in 1994.

Gaz de France announces the appointment of Jean-François Cirelli as its president.

Cirelli was assistant private secretary to Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and, previously, involved in a number of posts as economic, industrial, and social adviser to French President Jacques Chirac. He replaces Pierre Gadonneix, who was appointed as president of Electricité de France.

AltaCanada Energy Corp., Calgary, announced Don Foulkes, currently president, AltaCanada, has also been appointed CEO, replacing Josef Hodel, who resigned on Aug. 16 but will remain as vice-chairman and a director.

Foulkes has more than 34 years of experience in the oil and natural gas industry and has been involved with several corporations in various plays in Montana and Canada.

CMS Energy Corp. has elected David W. Joos, currently president and chief operating officer, to the position of president and CEO for CMS Energy, Jackson, Mich.

Former CEO Ken Whipple will continue as chairman of CMS Energy and its principal subsidiary, Consumers Energy.

Whipple has served as chairman and CEO since May 2002.

Joos joined the utility in 1976 and has received a succession of increasingly responsible management positions at the company.

Park Shaper has been elected executive vice-president, Kinder Morgan Inc., Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP, and Kinder Morgan Management LLC, by their respective boards.

He retains his chief financial officer title.

Houston-based El Paso Corp. reported that Al W. Erxleben has been named vice-president, Gulf of Mexico operations, for El Paso Production Co.

Erxleben was vice-president, exploration, and then director, geology and geophysics, for Black Stone Minerals Co. LP. Previously, he held various positions at Apache Corp., Tenneco Oil E&P, and ExxonMobil Corp.

Stone Energy Corp., Lafayette, La., announced that the board has appointed Jerry F. Wenzel as vice-president, production and drilling. Wenzel was expected to join Stone Energy on Oct. 1.

Wenzel is currently vice-president and business unit leader of Intec Engineering.

Previously, he spent 29 years with Amoco Corp. and BP PLC where he held various managerial and executive positions. Among other positions, he served as operations manager, Amoco Gulf of Mexico, vice-president, Amoco, and vice-president, BP Deepwater Production and Development.

Additionally, Michael E. Madden, currently vice-president, engineering, will now assume the newly created position of vice-president, exploration and production technology.

Dansk Olie & Naturagas AS (DONG), Horsholm, Denmark, has appointed Brent Cheshire as managing director of its British subsidiary DONG (UK) Ltd.

Cheshire previously worked for Shell and Amerada Hess Corp., where he was managing director, Amerada Hess Scandinavian operations, and his latest responsibility was for Amerada Hess's global technical activities.
