New combustible gas, oxygen monitor

The new Pac Ex 2 compact and rugged hand held, combustible gas and oxygen monitoring device is simple and easy to operate.

It features a clear, fully functional LCD concentration display with audible, visual, and vibrating alarms to provide personal protection. An optional sample pump allows for confined-space measurements.

One of its uses is the ability to measure combustible gases in the 0-100% lower explosive limit range and the range of 0-25% volume oxygen. Covering these ranges, the unit measures for smaller leaks as well as larger concentrations that may be experienced in oil fields, petrochemical plants, and shipping operations. This new unit's battery life lasts more than 12 hr between charges, and the RFI-protected housing guards against the environment.

New high performance drilling rig instrumentation

New, high performance drilling rig instrumentation is capable of withstanding tough conditions.

Instrumentation consists of display modules connected to central processing units via a network cable. These control systems allow the user to set up all the desired functions to measure real time drilling parameters such as torque and speed, rate of penetration, drilled depth, total weight, mud pump strokes, mud flow return, and trip tank volume. Procedures for setting up all functions are quick, easy, and only necessary once.

Instrumentation addresses three functions. The NC01/VN01 measures and displays torque and speed of the rotary table and top drive, as well as parameters such as drilled depth, rate of penetration, hook load, mud pressure, choke manifold, and tong torque. The NC02/VN02 performs the same operations for speed and stroke count for three mud pumps, while the NC03/VN03 measures and displays the levels of eight mud tanks and one trip tank but also mud total and loss-gain on each tank.

New hand held ultrasonic flowmeter

The new Portaflow-X ultrasonic flowmeter uses the transit time difference principle to measure flow rates through pipe from the outside.

This hand held, noninvasive setup enables multiple flow measurements of running systems.

Common applications include boilerwater-feedwater supplies, cooling water, cooling oil, chemicals, fuel, and other homogeneous flows with relatively low solid content and low to moderate aeration.

The tool can measure flows through most pipe and lining materials with diameters of 0.50-235 in.

It can be used as a backup flowmeter for an already installed unit, or as a standalone flowmeter system.

The 3.3 lb unit features a backlit display, accuracy of ±0.5% to ±1.0% of velocity typical on calibrated system, simple setup and operation, built-in data logger, and RS-232C serial communication. The optional thermal printer mounts to the top of the converter.

New static mixer helps insure pipeline integrity

This new slotted plate static mixer allows accurate sampling of liquids and gases for quality and composition, helping to insure pipeline integrity

In addition to liquid mixing for quality, the new FloMix slotted mixer now allows mixing of natural gas to sample quality and composition of what is actually in the line. With a representative sample, pipeline integrity can be insured, the company says.

The mixer uses patented slotted-plate technology developed at Texas A&M University, College Station, Tex., with sufficient hole edge to insure good mixing of total line flow. Each plate is designed for the user's operating conditions and performance requirements. Placing a plate between existing flanges eliminates cutting and welding on the pipe. Made of 316 stainless steel with ANSI flange ratings to 2,500 lb, the design pressure is 6,000 psig at 100° F.

In addition to mixing before sampling, the plates are also for process and refinery applications to mix liquids after chemical or odorant injection, pace a sampler or injector, and as an inductor.
