Nederlandse Aardolie Maatsschappij BV, Assen, Netherlands, will consider redevelopment of idle Schoonebeek field, Northwest Europe's largest onshore oil field.

Schoonebeek, which began production in 1948, has yielded only about 25% of original oil in place, leaving a target estimated at 750 million bbl of 25° gravity, viscous oil with a relatively high wax content.

A decision is to be made in 2005 on whether to apply the steam assisted gravity drainage method to the field by introducing offset horizontal wells to the reservoir at 2,500 ft.

The redevelopment concept involved building a full-field thermal reservoir simulation model. NAM said the proposal is in the Dutch permitting process.
