Personnel Moves & Promotions: Amerada Hess names chief financial officer

Amerada Hess Corp. named John P. Rielly senior vice-president and chief financial officer. Rielly succeeds John Y. Schreyer, who plans to retire from Amerada Hess on Apr. 30.

John J. Scelfo was named senior vice-president of finance and corporate development.

Rielly joined Amerada Hess in 2001 as vice-president and controller after working for 17 years with Ernst & Young LLP.

Scelfo, whose previous career included 19 years with Mobil Oil Corp., joined Amerada Hess in 2003 as vice-president and chief financial officer of worldwide exploration and production.

Upstream moves

Hunt Oil Co., Dallas, promoted James B. Jennings to chairman and Stephen C. Hurley to president.

Jennings, who has been with Hunt Oil for 25 years, served as executive vice-president during 1991-99 and was president since 1999. In addition to his duties as chairman, he also supervises the company's LNG development, including its Peru LNG project.

Hurley joined Hunt Oil in August 2001, following Hunt's acquisition of Chieftain International Inc. of Edmonton, Alta., where Hurley was senior vice-president, chief operating officer, and a board member.

Canada Southern Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, named John W. A. McDonald president and CEO and Todd R. Klippenstein controller.

McDonald previously led the exploration and production operations at AltaGas Services Inc., Calgary. Klippenstein has worked in the oil industry for more than 20 years.

Downstream moves

Jesus Luongo was appointed general manager of the 900,000 b/d-capacity Paraguana Refining Complex (CRP) operated by Venezuelan state oil firm Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA).

He has 20 years of service with state oil corporation PDVSA and previously was CRP submanager. Luongo succeeds Ivan Hernandez, who became PDVSA's vice-president of refining.

Trade association moves

The Calgary-based Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) elected Roger Thomas as chairman. Thomas is president and CEO of Nexen Canada Ltd., Calgary.

CAPP elected Calgary-based Mancal Energy Inc. Pres. and CEO Ross Douglas as the trade association's vice-chairman.

CAPP represents 150 oil and natural gas companies throughout Canada. CAPP members produce more than 98% of Canada's oil and gas.
