New gas monitors work continuously

New Models G20 and G40—two and four-gas portable detectors—promise mobility and convenience.

And the firm also offers its new Model MC600 modular multichannel controller, which combines an advanced microprocessor-based design with a new industry standard for flexible and economic toxic and combustible gas monitoring.

G20, G40. These are designed for uses where fixed gas detection is neither practical nor present, including petrochemical and chemical plants and refineries. Gases detected include carbon monoxide, oxygen, LEL-combustible, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, chlorine dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide, and nitrogen dioxide.

Both are recently approved by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

The G20 can be configured for either one or two gas sensors, while the G40 can be configured for use with one to four gas sensors.

Sensors are interchangeable, allowing for multiple configurations using a single detector. Both detectors have programmable alarm set points for time weighted average, short-term exposure limit, and two gas concentration levels per sensor. The user interface is via four keypad buttons, a menu-driven LCD, and a bank of three LEDs.

The LCD offers easy setup and operation, while the text can rotate 180° for easy viewing when either holding or belt mounted.

Gas readings and battery status are simultaneously indicated. Microsoft Windows-compatible software charts gas exposure levels and calibration records.

User adjustable alarm conditions are provided by a combination of audible alarm (90 dbA), LCD, and LEDs (green, yellow, and red).

Recorded data can be downloaded from the G20 and G40 when it is installed in the optional battery charger via an RS-232 connector.

The detectors are housed in a chemical-resistant, high-impact plastic case. Weight is 14 oz for the G20 and 16 oz for the G40. Approvals include UL, CUL, CENELEC, CE Marking, and MSHA.

Accessories include manual or electric sample pump kits, calibration kit, data logging software, battery charger, external sample pump, sample probe, flow housing, neck and wrist straps, carrying case, and car lighter adapter.

MC600. This modular multichannel controller combines an advanced microprocessor-based design with a new industry standard for flexible and economic toxic and combustible gas monitoring. Offering one to six channels of continuous gas monitoring, the MC600 is compatible with the firm's basic hydrocarbon and H2S sensors, all versions of its combustible and H2S intelligent-smart gas detectors, as well as Models IR2100, IR7000 infrared detectors, and TS-Series toxic gas detectors.

The scalable controller can be used as either a local gas detection system or networked to provide a large plant-wide distributed safety system.

Designed with dual redundant Modbus communications, the MC600 provides complete status and control capability. Due to its modular design, it offers easy installation, a long life span, and an attractive return-on-investment, the firm points out.

Typical uses include waste water operations, chemical and petrochemical plants, refineries, and gas processing and compressor stations.

The unit comes preconfigured per customer requirements, saving installation time with minimum setup required. Removable terminal blocks allow for easy installation and wiring.

A front panel user interface includes six independent LCD channel displays and keypad for setup, calibration, and gas reading functions as well as ready, alarm, and fault indicators. Six user-configurable 8 amp relays with selectable zoning and voting are included.

A corrosion-resistant, rugged Type 4X housing is configured for wall mounting. An optional onboard 115 or 230 v AC power supply is also available.

Signal conditioning boards for H2S-hydrocarbon sensors and a 4-20 ma interface for smart detectors are easily installed or removed from plug-in slots. The MC600 is CSA approved with UL approval and CE Marking pending.

New biodegradable lubricant for compressors

New BDC-46 biodegradable compressor lubricant is designed to improve system performance, equipment life, and environmental protection. It's recommended for oil-flooded rotary screw and vane compressors, along with axial and centrifugal compressors.

Specially designed and tested for demanding systems, BDC-46 extends equipment life and exceeds biodegradability requirements per ASTM D 5864 test method, the firm notes.

An oil-monitoring program recently showed that this lubricant keeps equipment running clean at peak efficiency for more than 10,000 hr in normal operating conditions while eliminating carbon and varnish buildup, the company reports.

Friction and wear are reduced as a result of the lubricant's high film strength and adhesion to metal, the company says.

Other features include viscosity and low volatility across a wide range of temperatures.

The product's additive technology helps prevent corrosion, enhance water separation, and minimize lubricant contamination.
