Esso SAF has appointed Dominique Badel chairman and CEO in charge of coordinating all ExxonMobil interests in France.

Esso SAF has appointed Dominique Badel chairman and CEO in charge of coordinating all ExxonMobil interests in France. He succeeds Patrick Heinzle who was named ExxonMobil vice-president of finance and controller for Africa and the Middle East.

Badel has been with Esso since 1970, and he has worked in Paris, Dallas, and Tokyo, where he was chairman and CEO of Esso Sekiyu. He then served as president of Mobil Sekiyu and chairman of ExxonMobil Group Japan.

Most recently, Badel served as director of the global downstream coordination office in Fairfax, Va.

Heinzle joined Esso in 1977 and worked in France before becoming assistant general auditor for Exxon Co. International in Florham Park, NJ. Returning to France in 1992, he was appointed Esso SAF accounting manager and controller, then served as finance manager in 1996. In 2000, Heinzle became chairman and CEO.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. has promoted Jim Larson, currently senior vice-president, finance, to chief financial officer.

He succeeds Michael Rose, executive vice-president and chief financial officer, who will retire (OGJ Online, Dec. 3, 12003).

Larson joined Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co. (the former parent of Anadarko) in 1981 as assistant director of taxes. In 1983, he was named assistant controller of Anadarko and was promoted to controller in 1986. In 1995, Larson was named vice-president and was promoted to senior vice-president in 2002.

Petroleum Development Corp., Bridgeport, W.Va., has promoted four executives, including Darwin L. Stump, who was named chief financial officer. Stump had served as controller since he joined the company in 1980.

Janet L. Potter has been promoted to controller. She had been assistant controller since 1990.

Eric R. Stearns has been named executive vice-president, exploration and development. He joined the company as a geologist in 1985.

Thomas E. Riley has been appointed executive vice-president, production, natural gas marketing, and business development. He has been with the company since 1996.

Marathon Oil Corp., Houston, has named Alard Kaplan vice-president, major projects, and and Janet F. Clark senior vice-president and chief financial officer.

Based in Houston, Kaplan will be responsible for project management from the engineering and design stage through the construction phase. Previously, Kaplan worked for Foster Wheeler USA Corp.'s LNG project group. Clark previously was senior vice-president and chief financial officer of Nuevo Energy Co., Houston. She joined Nuevo in 2001. At Marathon, Clark succeeds John T. Mills, who retired Dec. 1.

BHP Billiton Ltd., Melbourne, has promoted Marius Kloppers to chief commercial officer from chief marketing officer.

The move followed the resignation of David Munro, BHP Billiton chief development officer. Munro is joining Britain's ready-mixed concrete producer RMC Group PLC as group chief executive, effective Jan. 19.

In his new job, Kloppers will be the chief development officer in addition to his existing responsibilities. The function includes group strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and business evaluation. He was expected to assume his expanded responsibilities starting this month.
