ConocoPhillips Gas & Power names new president

ConocoPhillips has appointed Chris Conway as president of ConocoPhillips Gas & Power. He succeeds J. Mike Stice, recently named president of ConocoPhillips Qatar.

Conway joined the company 23 years ago. Most recently, he was general manager of ConocoPhillips's Americas crude supply and trading operations.

Stice, who was president of ConocoPhillips Gas & Power for 5 years, will lead the company's Qatar LNG project. ConocoPhillips and Qatar Petroleum Corp. signed a heads of agreement for the development of Qatargas, a large-scale LNG project to be built in Qatar (OGJ Online, July 11, 2003).

Upstream moves

Pioneer Natural Resources Co., Dallas, has rearranged its international oversight responsibilities.

Scott D. Sheffield, Pioneer chairman and CEO, is overseeing Argentine operations, and Bill Hannes, engineering and development vice-president, is overseeing South African operations. Chris Cheatwood, executive vice-president of worldwide exploration, assumed oversight of Canadian operations.

The reassigned duties took effect Sept. 15.

Effective Nov. 1, Dennis E. Fagerstone will retire as Pioneer's executive vice-president of international operations after 32 years in the industry. Fagerstone was executive vice-president and chief operating officer for Mesa Inc., Dallas, when it merged with Parker & Parsley Petroleum Co., Midland, Tex. (OGJ, Apr. 14, 1997, p. 26).

Logan Magruder has joined Berry Petroleum Co., Bakersfield, Calif., as vice-president of its Denver-based Rockies and Midcontinent region.

He previously worked as an acquisitions consultant for Berry (OGJ Online, Feb. 27, 2003).

Recently, Berry acquired Williams Production RMT Co.'s Brundage Canyon properties in northeastern Utah for $48.6 million (OGJ, May 19, 2003, p. 39).

Magruder said Berry plans to commence a drilling program there this year.

Previously, Magruder served in Denver as vice-president, US operations, for the Houston-based Calpine Natural Gas Co. Before that, he worked 5 years for Denver-based Barrett Resources Corp., which was later acquired by Williams Cos. Inc., Tulsa (OGJ Online, May 7, 2001).

Washington, DC-based National Petrochemical & Refiners Association has reported that its chairman-elect is Bill Klesse, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corp.

Klesse will succeed NPRA Chairman Duane Gilliam, retired executive vice-president of Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC. Klesse will serve as NPRA vice-chairman until he takes office in March.
