Results of an evaluation clearly show that deepwater technology development for benign environments has limited use in the hostile waters of the Atlantic margin. For such environments, developers need experience with current harsh environment technology. This is more important than experience in ultradeepwater benign environments.BP PLC and Statoil ASA reached these conclusions after evaluating the maturity and applicability of concepts for deepwater harsh-environment oil production.
