Houston and Stavanger, respectively, announced the appointment of PennWell as the Official Media Sponsor for ONS 2004, scheduled for August 24-27 next year.

Houston and Stavanger, respectively, announced the appointment of PennWell as the Official Media Sponsor for ONS 2004, scheduled for August 24-27 next year. During the signing ceremony, ONS managing director, Kjell Ursin-Smith, commented that the arrangement will further ONS' aim of making the event more international, attracting more delegates and exhibitors from different countries. PennWell will promote the event through its industry-leading petroleum magazines:

LAGCOE

Lafayette, La., has named Bill Flores Jr. as public relations chairman for this year's Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition. Flores, who holds a petroleum engineering degree from Louisiana State University, is senior vice-president of drilling for Ocean Energy Inc. in Lafayette, where he has served since 1993.

Major accomplishments that will be part of the public relations focus are the fact that LAGCOE has been chosen to participate in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program, and the event was chosen one of the nation's top 200 trade shows in all categories by TradeShow Week magazine.

LAGCOE 2003 is scheduled for October 28-30 at the Cajundome and Convention Center in Lafayette.

Schlumberger Oilfield Services

Houston, recently launched in the Gulf of Mexico its DeepStim III, a fit-for-purpose shelf vessel equipped with the latest advanced stimulation and information technology. Built to work in water depths as shallow as 20 ft., the vessel offers the ability to service deepwater wells through to the shallow water rigs on the shelf.

The enclosed North Sea-style deck eliminates exposure of equipment and personnel to weather, and contains both satellite global positioning and a sonar system to assure that operations continue in adverse weather.

Schlumberger is a global oil field and information services company. Schlumberger Oilfield Services supplies a wide range of technology services and solutions to the international oil and gas industry.

UWG Group

Norwich, UK, has received a Queen's Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2003 for its Suspended Well Abandonment Tool (SWAT). The award was presented by HRH the Duke of York at Westminster Palace.

In 2001, UWG Group won the Institute of Petroleum Platinum Award for setting an innovative industry benchmark with SWAT.

To date, more than 60 wells have been abandoned using the tool.

UWG Group is comprised of UWG Ltd., Team Energy Resources Ltd., Claxton Engineering Ltd., and 2H Offshore. It provides equipment and engineering solutions for rigless well decommissioning and subsea structures, fixed and flexible riser analysis, and well construction project management.

Steelproducts Offshore (SPO) and Vector International

Drammen, Norway, and London, UK, respectively, have merged and will go forward under the Vector International name. Formed by two providers of piping and vessel connection and sealing technology, the merged firm creates a global organization to meet all pressure connection and containment needs onshore, offshore, and subsea.
