New offshore pressure transmitters

New PTX 300 Series offshore pressure transmitters come with operating ranges of as much as 15,000 psi and are fully submersible with an ambient pressure rating of as much as 4,000 psi.

Units utilize micromachined piezo resistive silicon pressure measurement technology.

Transmitters are packaged to suit the specific requirements of subsea hydraulic control systems. The firm says its units offer high pressure containment rating, hydraulic transient protection, and integrity of cable-electrical connections that combine with precision measuring technology.

Features include ranges of 1,000-15,000 psi sealed gauge or absolute; external-ambient pressure up to 4,000 psi; better than 0.1% accuracy; reliability and long term stability; all welded construction, high containment; and accuracy combined nonlinearity, hysteresis, and repeatability: ±0.1% full scale.

Sweep cleans up during drilling

Baroid's new BAROLIFT allows operators to clean downhole during drilling operations by increasing the carrying capacity of drilling fluids without increasing viscosity.

As part of its Lift While You Drill technologies, the product is a specially treated synthetic fiber developed from 100% virgin materials that are capable of performing well in any type of drilling fluid, the company says.

The product's interlocking fibers keep drill cuttings in suspension, optimizing downhole tool performance and improving the rate of penetration.

It is compatible with water, oil, and synthetic-based fluids. It is nontoxic and unaffected by subfreezing temperatures.

BAROLIFT sweeps cuttings from vertical and horizontal wells.

It reduces the formation of, as well as breaks up, cuttings beds and helps to avoid building high viscosities through the entire system.

Free brochure presents steam turbine selection

YR standardized steam turbines are highlighted in free Brochure YR3-2002/FLP.

Single-stage models described include the standard unit rated to as high as 3,500 hp, plus descriptions of the PYR for lower power requirements, and the V model for operating high pressure or high-speed equipment.

In addition to the single-stage turbines, the Multi-YR turbine product line is available with models rated to 10,000 hp.

This design combines the reliability and parts interchangeability of the firm's single-stage turbine with the power and efficiency of it multistage turbines. The multistage YR produces more horsepower without additional steam.

The Multi-YR can be mounted in areas where single-stage steam turbines are currently operating, the firm notes.

Among the standard features described and illustrated in the brochure are self-locating rotors, shaft seals, linear type bearings, and the mechanical-hydraulic governing system with separate overspeed trip valve.

Deepwater well control guidelines

Deepwater well control guidelines are now available in an easy-to-reference, fully searchable CD-ROM.

They are designed to aid the drilling segment of the industry in conducting operations in deepwater areas of the world and focus on planning, control procedures, equipment, emergency response, and training.

Recent updates to the guidelines now include the supplement published in 2000, which covers unplanned disconnects in deepwater drilling, riser margin overview, external loading of BOP equipment, and volumetric rating of subsea accumulator bottles.
