Indexes for selected equipment show moderate increase

Costs for six selected equipment items used in refining construction operations have been surveyed for the 3 years, 2000-02. The accompanying table shows Nelson-Farrar equipment indexes for these items of equipment.

Bubble trays showed the greatest increase in cost, rising from 1,058.4 in the first quarter of 2000 to 1,150.4 in the last quarter of 2002

Four other items showed more modest increases. The tanks and pressure vessels category rose from 763.1 to 792.5 during the 36-month span. Nonmetallic building materials increased from 764.8 to 788.5. Valves and fittings showed an index gain from 1,552.1 to 1,598.9..Fractionating towers showed a 62-point gain, increasing from 898.1 to 960.5 over the 3-year period.

The final category, tube stills, showed the least gain during the data compilation period. Beginning index value was 388.0, while the final value was 407.7.
