Aberdeen, has appointed David Baillie as chief executive of Wood Group Gas Turbine Services. Baillie joins the group from Schlumberger, where he held a wide range of senior management positions.

Wood Group Gas Turbine Services is a leading independent provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for light industrial, aero-derivative, and heavy industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and other high-speed rotating equipment, including pumps and compressors.

Houston, has announced that Hassan Yassine, former director of Sonatrach, has joined the law firm as a partner. With the addition of Yassine, Thompson & Knight has established an office in Algiers, and an office in Paris, to support clients wishing to do business in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Prior to his 13-year career with Sonatrach, Yassine spent nearly 20 years as the senior legal director for the Ministry of Energy and Mines in Algeria.

Founded in 1887, Thompson & Knight offers clients a full-service, global energy practice.

Compagnie Générale de Géophysique (CGG)

Paris, has announced the opening of a computing hub in Kuala Lumpur to provide data processing power for both the Kuala Lumpur center and the Perth, Australia center. The computing hub will be managed by Azmi Ismail, managing director of CGG Asia Pacific. CGG provides a wide range of seismic data acquisition, processing, and reservoir services to clients in the oil and gas exploration and production industry. It also manufactures geophysical equipment.

Houston, has named the management team for its newly acquired ReedHycalog drill bit division. John Deane is president of the division. Vice-presidents are David Black, operations; Cody Scace, sales & marketing; Jeff Steen, administration/legal; and Jim Lock, finance.

Deane joined Reed in 1975, and held several positions of increasing responsibility with the company, most recently serving as president of ReedHycalog from 1999-2000. With Schlumberger's acquisition of ReedHycalog, Deane served as vice-president of drilling technology for Schlumberger D&M.

Beverly Hills, Calif., has appointed Timothy Campbell as chief operating officer. Campbell started his petroleum career in 1970 as an attorney and economist for Standard Oil of Indiana (Amoco) and as a landman for the Texas Gulf Coast region. He also had served as president of Amarabia Corp., representing Fortune 500 companies in the Middle East. Most recently he was CEO of Campbell Energy Corp., managing oil and gas partnerships in Texas, Oklahoma, and California.
