Jeannette, Pa., has named Donal P. Maloney as president and chief executive officer upon the retirement of David G. Assard. He assumes responsibility for all operations of the corporation, as well as for Elliott-Ebara Turbomachinery Corp. in Sodegaura, Japan.

Maloney received a BS degree in chemical engineering from Wayne State University, and completed postgraduate work at Drexel University and Cornell University. He joined Elliott in 1966.

Elliott Turbomachinery Co. Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ebara Corp., designs, manufactures, installs, and services turbines, compressors, and related turbomachinery products for a wide variety of applications throughout the world.

Oslo, has announced that Schlumberger Information Solutions has agreed to acquire its software and services business, including its Petrel workflow tools for 3D modeling of oil and gas reservoirs.

Schlumberger Information Solutions, an operating unit of Schlumberger Oilfield Services, is a leading supplier of integrated business solutions comprising GeoQuest software, information management services, information technology, and a complete range of expert services.

Schlumberger Oilfield Services is a leading supplier of technology services and solutions to the international petroleum industry.

Technoguide AS is the developer of Petrel Workflow Tools software.

Stabil Drill

Lafayette, La., has established a European hub in Aberdeen. The new facility, with offices and rental and manufacturing capabilities, will serve the North Sea, as well as the company's customers in various European and African markets.

Stabil Drill manufactures stabilizers, hole openers, and milling tools, and offers a large inventory of downhole rental tools. It is the first subsidiary of parent Superior Energy Services Inc. to operate in the North Sea. Stabil Drill currently has five full-service facilities in the US and Canada, and has equipment operating in 22 countries.

Superior Energy Services Inc. is a provider of specialized oil field services and equipment focused on serving the production-related needs of oil and gas companies in the Gulf of Mexico and, now, the North Sea.

Varco International Inc.

Houston, has appointed John F. Lauletta as chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2003. He currently is president and chief operating officer. Joseph Winkler will replace Lauletta as chief operating officer, and Clay Williams will become chief financial officer.

Lauletta earned degrees in geology from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. His oil industry career has included service with Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Drexel Oilfield Services, and Tuboscope Inc.

Varco International Inc., founded in 1908, is a leading manufacturer and supplier of innovative drilling equipment, rig instrumentation, oil field tubular inspections, internal coating techniques, solids control systems and services, composite pipe, coiled tubing, and pressure control equipment for both land and offshore drilling and production operations.

Verano Inc.

Sunnyvale, Calif., has announced the relocation of its headquarters from Sunnyvale to Mansfield, Mass., in order to better support its Calgary and London operations. Moving to a closer time zone will allow Verano to overlap more business hours with both its European customers and those in western Canada.

Verano Inc. provides software solutions to industrial clients in process industries, utilities, energy, and transportation.

PennWell Corp.

Tulsa, has appointed William Pryor as publisher of Oil & Gas Journal to replace Tom Terrell, who has retired after 33 years with the company. Pryor, a publishing executive with PennWell since 1989, was also named president of PennWell's Petroleum Group.

As senior vice-president of PennWell's Computer & Electronics Group and a key member of the company's executive management team, Pryor has been overseeing publishing operations, events, and online media in a variety of global technology markets for the past 12 years. Before joining PennWell, Pryor spent 10 years in technology-related publishing for IDG Publishing, Cahners Media, and Morgan Grampian Publishing.

Terrell will serve as publisher emeritus of Oil & Gas Journal, which is ending the yearlong celebration of its 100-year anniversary. Terrell joined PennWell in 1969 as a sales trainee for Oil & Gas Journal and became publisher in 1987. Since 1992 he also served as senior vice-president of the company's Petroleum Group, headquartered in Houston. In a statement regarding Terrell's tenure, Robert F. Biolchini, PennWell president and chief executive officer, stated "Tom's devotion to the magazine and to the industry created a standard for service to our readers and advertisers that we take great pride in and will strive to maintain and strengthen." He added that Terrell's continued service as publisher emeritus will establish the foundation for Oil & Gas Journal for the next 100 years.
