Carlisle, Pa., has formed a partnership with Tau Engineering Solutions Inc., Edmonton, to enhance services and support available to Advantica Stoner clients in the natural gas and liquids pipeline industry in Canada.

Tau Engineering Solutions is a specialized consulting firm that provides simulation project services, and engineering hydraulic analysis studies to the pipeline industry.

Advantica is a provider of advanced technology and systems solutions for energy and utility companies worldwide. With origins in British Gas in the UK and in Stoner Associates in the US, the company blends skills in technology, software, engineering, training, and testing. Advantica Stoner provides network management solutions to energy and water delivery companies.

Lone Star Steel Co.

Dallas, has presented its Chief Roughneck award for 2002 to Robert L. Nance, president and CEO of Nance Petroleum Corp., Billings, Mont. A geologist, Nance has among his many accomplishments the use of 3-D seismic and horizontal drilling technologies to identify and develop profitable reserves. The lifetime achievement award was announced at this year's meeting of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA).

Lone Star Steel Co., a Dallas-based producer of oil field casing, tubing, and line pipe, instituted the Chief Roughneck award in 1955 to recognize those whose accomplishments and character best represent the highest ideals of the oil and gas industry.

BJ Process & Pipeline Services

Aberdeen, has appointed Joe Hall as regional sales manager for SmartPlug, the remote-controlled pipeline isolation system for which BJ holds the exclusive license in the US, Mexico, and Canada. In his new position, Hall will be based in Houston.

Hall has 22 years of experience in the pipeline industry, including extensive periods in Europe and the Middle East. He earned a BS in business administration at Woodbury University-Los Angeles.

BJ Process & Pipeline Services is a business unit of BJ Services Co., a leading provider of pressure pumping and related oil field services.

Rolls-Royce plc

London, has announced the appointment of E. Thomas Curley as president-energy business. He is based in Chantilly, Va.

Curley joined Rolls-Royce with its acquisition of Cooper-Bessemer Rotating Products, a division of Cooper Cameron Corp., in 1999. He had served as vice-president and general manager of the Cooper-Bessemer division from 1997. Curley holds a BS in industrial technology from the University of Massachusetts, and an AS in aeronautical engineering from Daniel Webster College.

Rolls-Royce plc is a global provider of power products and services for land, sea, and air to a broad range of markets.

Schlumberger Ltd.

New York, has announced that Andrew Gould, its president and COO, will become chairman and CEO upon the retirement of current chairman Euan Baird early in 2003.

Gould holds a degree in economic history from University College in Wales, and joined Schlumberger in 1975. He has held a succession of financial and operational management positions with the company, including executive vice-president of Schlumberger Oilfield Services from 1999 to 2002.
