New digital pressure gauge/transmitter

Here's the new DPG-6700 digital pressure gauge/transmitter, a unit that combines pressure transducer technology with multitemperature calibration routines to provide stable process operation measurements.

Its 316 SS media-isolated pressure sensors—to 10,000 psig—provide vacuum readings and positive pressure measurement accuracy of 0.25% full scale over a range of 32-131° F. The operating temperature range extends from –40° to +185° F.

Powered by either 24 v DC loop power or an AC/DC adapter, the DPG-6700 contains a 3.6 v lithium cell that can provide up to 4 years of backup power. The unit features a 4-20 ma signal output, which is scalable across the entire span. It is designed to be intrinsically safe for use in Class 1, Division 2, Group C and D hazardous area locations.

A high resolution, four-digit LCD with oversized 0.75 in. high characters and a 25 segment bar graph aid readability. The tool features an ABS case with the Dyna-Mount connection/flange system that allows for field reconfiguration of the process connection from bottom to back. Other product features include dual electronic switches, high and low pressure query, multiple engineering units, and adjustable LCD damping. Chemical seals and a 300 series SS case are optional.

Process mixes lab-quality drilling fluids at the wellsite

A new patented process promises efficiently to mix drilling fluids.

Environmental waste disposal costs are almost eliminated because no bags or one-time containers are necessary, the company points out.

The automated system combines polymers, thickeners, and other bulk powders that are transported to the drilling site in patented collapsible and reusable containers. The powders are quickly and completely dispersed utilizing the patented technology of the ARDE Megagrinder shearing pump supplied by ARDE Barinco Inc., Norwood, NJ.

The mixing system combines a design that manages the supply of bulk powder materials while eliminating the waste disposal costs normally associated with this process and an optimized mixing system that includes the Megagrinder. Large volumes can be made just in time with the precise formula required. The Megagrinder utilizes a high speed heavy duty rotor/stator built of abrasion resistant 17-4 PH stainless steel material.

All lumps and agglomerations of powders are smoothed out and incorporated into the batch.

Process accurately mixes 1,000 bbl/hr of drilling fluids "on the fly" at the drillsite.

The correct viscosity is obtained every time, the company says. The bulk powder storage and delivery system meters the correct volume into the mixing batch without losses or wastes.

Solid state pressure switch

The new solid state One Series two-wire pressure switch detects blockage of the sensor port due to process debris, slurries, or crustation buildup.

Operating on just two wires and powered from PLC/DCS discrete input, the One Series' diagnostic capabilities include detection, signal, and display of the plugged or isolated sensor condition, signaling operators to take corrective action to restore normal process flow.

The One Series provides solid state reliability, patented IAW diagnostics, local display and setup, and carries cULus and CENELEC agency certification for Division 2 and intrinsically safe hazardous locations.

It can be used as a drop-in replacement for a mechanical switch in existing applications without additional wiring or modification.

In addition, the switch's plugged port detection eliminates faulty live zero signals that may result when transmitter sensor ports are blocked.

Housed in a Type 4X/IP56 enclosure, the switch is equipped with welded 316 stainless steel sensors that cover a range of 0-4,500 psi. The front panel provides digital display of process pressures and tamperproof keypad adjustment for selecting switch set point and operating mode.

Operators can activate or disable the plugged port feature based on process parameters and conditions.

In the field, users can select an on-off dead band of 0-100% of the pressure range, helping to assure precise tuning to maximize system efficiency, especially for applications such as level control or pump operation.
