Petroleum Development Oman said it found a major gas field, possibly the largest discovery in Oman in the last 6 years, about 50 km south of Adam in the Al Dakhiliyah region.
Kauther-1 cut a thick interval of gas-bearing sandstone at 4,200 m. PDO will run tests and conduct a seismic survey over nearby acreage.
Pakistan
OMV AG's Pakistan unit started up Miano gas field in the Thar desert 62 km southeast of Sukkur, aiming for production of close to 100 MMcfd by end-January 2002.
Gas is delivered to Sui Southern Gas Co. Ltd. at the 175 MMcfd Kadanwari treatment plant. The lease term is 13 years with an optional 5-year extension. OMV placed field production life at least 13 years. OMV discovered Miano on Block 20 in 1993 as the first stratigraphic trap in the Middle Indus basin.
