Two US independents recently named new top executives.

Two US independents recently named new top executives.

Rene G. Daigre Jr. has been named president and CEO of Denver-based Ensign Oil & Gas Inc.

Daigre joined Ensign in April 2000 and has served as executive vice-president and chief operating officer since January 2001. He has 25 years of industry experience, which includes holding positions of senior management with Ocean Energy Inc., Houston, and numerous engineering and management positions with Unocal Corp. and Petro-Lewis Corp., Golden, Colo.

Daigre succeeds Jerry M. Staggs, who has held the position of CEO and president for the last 11 years.

Separately, Jake Taylor has been named chairman of Ensign. Taylor succeeds J.C. Mendel, who has served as chairman for 6 years and will continue to serve as a director on Ensign's board.

Robert L. Cavnar has been named chairman and CEO of Houston-based Mission Resources Corp.

Cavnar has more than 27 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Most recently, he served as senior vice-president and chief financial officer of El Paso Production Co., a unit of Houston-based El Paso Corp. He had held numerous senior operating and financial positions at El Paso Field Services, also an El Paso unit.

Prior to working at El Paso, Cavnar held senior management positions with Cornerstone Natural Gas Inc., Dallas, and with New York City-based Chase Manhattan Bank's global energy division.
