Mauritania

Thickness of the oil column intersected by the Chinguetti-1 well on Area B offshore is now believed to be 120 m, not the 90 m announced in May 2001, said partner Hardman Resources NL, West Perth.

Woodside Petroleum Ltd., Perth, operator, plans to complete depth processing of 3D seismic data and drill the Chinguetti 2 and 3 wells in late 2002-03, Hardman indicated.

The 2002 program would also include one exploration well within 25 km of Chinguetti-1, which went to 2,620 m in 815 m of water 70 km off Nouakchott (OGJ, Apr. 9, 2001, p. 43).

Hardman expressed confidence that Chinguetti holds sufficient reserves for an economic, stand-alone development providing the appraisal wells pan out.

Sudan

Sudan plans to boost oil production to almost 300,000 b/d in coming months from 230,000 b/d for much of 2001. Talisman Energy Inc., Calgary, said it started up Bamboo field in July 2001 and expected it to be producing 30,000 b/d this year.

Talisman started up Kairat field in August 2001 at 10,000 b/d.
