Update released on seismic processing system

Version v2.50 is the latest release of this firm's Cube Manager proprietary seismic processing system.

The update will run the company's complete range of applications across Unix and Linux platforms and is suited for large PC cluster environments.

The company says its processing system runs SRME up-front on board its seismic vessels and can perform wave equation prestack depth migration on large volumes of data.

The full processing portfolio, which consists of more than 250 modules, has been ported, tested, and released for the PC environment.

Well planning software update released

The latest version of STABView well planning software for borehole stability, lost circulation, fracturing, and sand production risk analysis has been released. This new version aids well planning, design, and technical analysis.

It's used by operators and service companies to select optimal well trajectories and the safe window of bottomhole pressure or mud density to drill, complete, stimulate, and produce from all types of wells in any geological setting.

New features include multizone analysis capabilities, 3D visualization of the wellbore with color-coded pressure or mud density limits, nonlinear rock properties, import and export capabilities for interactive wellbore hydraulics modeling, temperatures effects, mud-shale chemical interaction effects, permafrost drilling, borehole deformations, and liner loading predictions.

The analysis tool kit provides the drilling, completions, or production engineer with a means to assess the consequences of any change in well design, the company says.

One of the uses for the software is the design of underbalanced drilling operations in weak or fractured formations.

STABView can be used for not only drilling a better well, but deciding on the need for sand control or mitigating casing damage during subsequent steam or water injection processes.

Adjustable speed drives combine features in one unit

New CFW-09 Vectrue drives offer volts-per-hertz, sensorless vector, and closed-loop vector control in a single drive. Matching the control mode to the application is as simple as selecting a parameter via the drive's operator friendly alphanumeric keypad.

In addition, Vectrue drives feature proprietary Optimal Braking technology, which provides increased braking torque.

The Vectrue drive family extends from 11/2 through 500 hp. A total of three units may be connected in parallel to serve motors up to 1,500 hp.

One drive family can now answer the needs of virtually any application, from pumps and fans using relatively straightforward control schemes, through specialized process equipment requiring precise vector control, the firm notes.

All Vectrue drives, regardless of size, utilize the same intelligent keypad interface with dual readouts. A large seven-segment LED, readable from a distance, is combined with a two-line, 16-character LCD for detailed parameter and message displays in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.

The detachable keypad also incorporates a time-saving copy function. This allows parameter sets to be stored in the keypad, which can then be removed and used conveniently to set up other drives in the system using the same parameters.

New automation, information management strategy

A new automation and information management strategy and platform for the oil industry-metsoDNA (dynamic network of applications)-is a SCADA development that combines open standards, advanced industry applications, secure enterprise integration, and real time connectivity.

It provides the strategy as well as the framework for combining new real time business solutions with legacy operation al and enterprise information environments.

Founded on the concept of distributed open systems and the integration of modern IT technology, the advanced information management n-tier architecture of metsoDNA forms a knowledge network, bridging the traditional gap between the enterprise and the field.

This bridge allows real time data to move into daily operations of the enterprise, supporting corporate decision-making.

Embracing the features of a component design, metsoDNA allows individual system components and advanced operational and business applications to be added or removed-virtually independently of one another.

This plug and play capability allows all information assets-including SCADA-to be easily integrated into the system, facilitating flexible, scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions, the company says.

Intranet database links dealers, customers

A new secured intranet database for Caterpillar dealers enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) the opportunity to provide CAT dealers with model specific information.

The system also has the capability electronically to notify an OEM when a CAT dealer accesses this database to service their product.

The service interlink allows OEMs to provide the Caterpillar product support network with a complete range of product support information.
