Spoolable carbon composite line pipe

Spoolable carbon composite (SCC) line pipe in diameters up through 4 in. and pressures up through 7,500 psig is available from this company's new group.

SCC is an alternative to conventional steel pipe. For use in high temperature and high-pressure applications, SCC has an extended field life, especially in corrosive environments, and offers high fatigue resistance, the company notes. The flexible, lightweight line pipe consists of carbon and glass fibers enabling installation rates of more than 1 mph.

SCC is fabricated utilizing a thermoplastic liner with a hybrid laminate. The thermoplastic liner serves as the fluid containment allowing high-temperature, high-pressure, or corrosive elements to stream through. The hybrid laminate, which provides structural support, consists of carbon and glass fibers in an enhanced amine-cured epoxy resin with an added scuff layer to protect the structural laminate.

Manufactured in lengths up to 30,000 ft, SCC can be stored, shipped, and deployed directly from the spool. The pipe requires fewer connections, the firm points out.

It's vailable in a variety of liners: HDPE (Cobra), ChemPEX (Python), or Rilsan (Boa). The chemical requirements of the specific application determine liner material chosen. The company says Cobra, Python, and Boa are field proved for use in oil production, gas gathering, midstream gathering, supercritical CO2 injection, or saltwater injection lines.

Package offers wireless upstream data solutions

A new integrated package provides wireless upstream data solutions.

The rugged AXESS transmitter is battery operated, provides up to a 1 mile range, and meets Class I, Div. II safety requirements. It interfaces directly to commonly used sensors (4-20 ma, 0/1-5 v dc, discrete outputs) and transmits the data back to a central receiver gateway.

It is particularly suited to upstream production facilities where more frequent surveillance can help increase efficiencies while reducing recurring operating expenses by replacing labor-based data collection with automation.

This new package eliminates the need to pull power and signal cables to sensor locations. It helps reduce capital expenditures by substituting local battery sensor powering and wireless surveillance for wired automation equipment.

Portable 1,200 amp stud welder easy to use, transport

The Studhorse 1200 is a new full size, lightweight, portable drawn arc stud welder. It uses a power supply that is based on inverter technology.

The unit weighs 80 lb, measuring19.5 in. long by 17.9 in. high by 10.5 in. wide (495 by 455 by 105 mm), generating an output of 1,200 amp, capable of welding studs up to 5/8 in. weld base diameter. The new stud welder can be powered from a 40 amp utility breaker at 480 v, three-phase or from a 30 amp time delay fuse. The welder features infinitely adjustable output current.

The Studhorse can easily be moved with the operator as the welding job progresses and connects with a 4 by 14 AWG (2 sq mm) power cord to either a utility grid or a power generator.

The power cord weighs 15 lb/100 ft (0.22 kg/m).The housing for the welder is made of heavy gauge 1/8 in. thick fiberglass-reinforced polyester.

Storage tank design, analysis, evaluation software

TANK Version 2.30 is an updated edition of a software program for the design, analysis, and evaluation of welded steel oil storage tanks.

The new version provides improved handling of user-defined materials and adds animated tutorials and an option for the design of rafter supported cone roofs. The software also supports output directly to Microsoft Word and includes a number of other technical enhancements.

TANK supports owners, operators, and engineering firms for designing new tanks and evaluating existing tanks.

The program incorporates full analysis and design capabilities for wall thickness, materials, supported cone roofs, seismic requirements, service-maintenance considerations, bottom plate thickness, nozzle flexibilities, shell settlement, wind girder requirements, and allowable fluid heights.

It includes built-in materials data bases plus data bases for structural steel, seismic curves, and nozzle curves from current and past API specifications. TANK input screens display descriptive texts and expected units to speed comprehension and model input. Input is enhanced with a built-in error checking program. Output is displayed in tabular and graphic reports.
