Lafayette, La., has named Jerry Borges as vice-president of international sales. A graduate of the University of Missouri in civil engineering, Borges has spent 20 years with Halliburton Energy Services, most recently as regional vice-president in Dubai. He will be based at OSCA's international headquarters in Houston.

Norristown, Pa., has appointed Carl D. Rapp as president and chief executive officer. Rapp has held several senior-level positions in sales and general management. He earned undergraduate degrees in economics and history from Trinity College, Hartford, Conn., and completed an MA in international relations at Boston University.

Philadelphia Gear Corp., founded 110 years ago, is an international manufacturer of gears and related power transmission equipment.

Carlisle Group

Waltham, Mass., has announced the acquisition of the Photovac Division of PerkinElmer Instruments. Photovac Inc. supplies innovative hand-held and portable instruments for detection and measurement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a gaseous state. Named to manage the new Photovac are Thomas A. Smith, president and chief executive officer; Thomas V. Hennessey Jr., vice-president and chief operating officer; and Frank J. Wezniak, chairman.

Smith has served in a variety of strategic planning, marketing, sales, and general management positions. He has a BS in engineering from the US Military Academy at West Point, an MS in mechanical engineering from MIT, and an MBA in international marketing from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Hennessey most recently served as chief financial officer of PHT Corp., a clinical trials software company. He holds degrees in mechanical engineering from MIT, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Wezniak has been involved with the operation and management of a wide variety of high technology companies since his graduation from Harvard Business School. He has a BS in physics from Brown University.

Weir Group PLC

Glasgow, Scotland, has appointed Laurie West as managing director of Weir Pumps Ltd. in Glasgow; Scot Smith as divisional director of Weir Slurry Div., based in Madison, Wis.; Warren H. Martin as president of Weir Slurry Group Inc., Madison; and Joseph W. Roark as president of Weir Specialty Pumps, Salt Lake City, Utah.

West is a chartered engineer with an MBA from Portsmouth Polytechnic. He joined Weir Pumps from the automotive industry.

Smith holds bachelors and master's degrees in business administration, with specialization in international business. He has 18 years of experience in the automotive industry.

Martin received a BS in biology and an MBA from the University of Dayton. His experience has been in industrial manufacturing environments, most recently with Fairbanks Morse Engine Co.

Roark succeeds Peter Krumm, who is retiring after 35 years with EnviroTech Pumpsystems, now Weir Specialty Pumps. Roark holds both BS and MBA from Michigan State University. He was previously president of Current Technology Inc.

Wellogix Inc.

Houston, has announced the addition of Philip Klahr as vice-president of knowledge systems. Klahr earned a PhD in computer sciences from the University of Wisconsin, and has 29 years of experience in customer relationship management (CRM), knowledge management, and advanced technology. Most recently, he served as chief knowledge architect for the SoftAd Group.

Klahr is an elected fellow of the American Association of Artificial Intelligence, and sits on the program committee for the Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence Conference.
