PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Shell Oil elects Watts chairman, Routs president

Shell Oil Co., Houston, has elected Philip Watts, chairman. Watts will take up the US chairmanship Sept. 1 while continuing in his role as chairman of the committee of managing directors of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group.

Shell Oil Co., Houston, has elected Philip Watts, chairman. Watts will take up the US chairmanship Sept. 1 while continuing in his role as chairman of the committee of managing directors of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group.

In another leadership change, Shell Oil elected Rob Routs president effective Sept. 1. Routs will remain head of Shell Oil Products US, serving as its president and CEO. Shell Oil Products US is part of Shell Oil, which in turn is an affiliate of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group.

Routs has held numerous senior executive positions within Royal Dutch/Shell since joining the company in 1971.

The election of Watts and Routs followed the announcement Apr. 25 that Steve Miller would retire as chairman, president, and CEO of Shell.

The Peruvian government has appointed Hector Taco chairman of state oil company Petroperu, replacing Raul Pasco, who resigned in early April, along with company directors Rafael Antesana and Cesar Almeida. The resignations followed controversy over the reported use of more than 5 million soles ($1.4 million) of Petroperu funds–either as a loan or donation–to finance restoration of areas in Lima’s government palace in recent months.

Midstream moves

CMS Panhandle Cos., the natural gas pipeline subsidiary of CMS Energy Corp., Dearborn, Mich., has realigned its marketing, business development, optimization, and marketing operations departments. Rob Bond, former vice-president of commercial optimization, became vice-president, marketing, succeeding Keith Meyer who was named to the new position of vice-president, business development, LNG, and supply.

Thomas F. Bonner has joined Washington Gas Light Co., Springfield, Va., as vice-president for gas transportation, effective Apr. 29. He will oversee all utility distribution operations.

Susan Glasmann and Alan Allred were named senior vice-presidents for Questar Regulated Services (QRS), a subsidiary of Questar Corp., Salt Lake City. Glasmann had been vice-president, operations, and Allred, vice-president, business development.

Downstream moves

Steve Wormington has been named president, California & Southwest region, for Tesoro Petroleum Corp. In his new role, Wormington will oversee the daily operations of the company’s assets in California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. Contra Costa County will become Tesoro’s new western regional headquarters.

Tesoro is seeking to acquire the Golden Eagle refinery, located on the east side of the Bay Area, and 70 retail locations from San Antonio-basedValero Energy Corp. Bill Haywood, senior vice-president, Golden Eagle refinery, will join the company pending regulatory approval of the acquisition and will continue his leadership role at the refinery. Commercial marketing activities will continue from Tesoro’s office in Long Beach, Calif.
