New system cuts time it takes to stimulate well
A new lower completion ball drop sleeve system has been developed that can help reduce the time it takes to stimulate a well.
The new i-Frac system is designed to allow operators to bring wells in tight formations on line quicker than other methods. The system recently reduced stimulation of a North Sea well on the Norwegian Continental Shelf to 11⁄2 days, as compared with what the firm says normally takes 40-50 days. The system allows for more than 20 sleeves per stage to be installed in a cemented liner and opened sequentially with a single ball. A number of stages can be run in a single well.
The firm says its technology also has potential for global shale oil and gas plays. Its use helps enable the well to be completed in a single, continuous process with the added environmental benefit of reduced water use.
