New mobile gantry crane

A new series of double-beam mobile gantry cranes is available to the industry.

The DB Model is designed for long-term, heavy-duty cycle work in a moderate terrain environment.

Options include: flexible steering modes, the ability to rotate loads faster and more efficiently, and a version to reduce fuel consumption.

Valve receives safety certification

The Becker emergency shutdown valve for oil field use has received IEC 61508 safety integrity level 3 (SIL 3) certification.

Certification was performed and awarded by safety certification agency Exida, Sellersville, Pa.

An SIL rating measures the ability of a system to reduce the overall level of process risk in safety applications. The SIL 3-certified emergency shutdown valve incorporates the Becker full port ball valve as well as the Becker VRP-SB-GAP and Masoneilan SVI II ESD products.

Combined systems measure data, report on alarms

Coastal Flow Measurement Cos., Houston, and American Innovations (AI), Austin, have collaborated to combine two remote monitoring systems to measure data and report on alarm conditions for oil and gas assets.

Coastal Measurment's BirdDog system collects data and monitors field operations. AI's Bullhorn sends alarms securely via satellite or digital cellular networks when equipment reaches pre-programmed parameters such as a high or low tank level.

The companies say users can obtain measurement data and address critical issues efficiently, without the cost of building and maintaining a complex supervisory control and data acquisition system.

New Compact current sensing switch

Here's the AS1 Series compact case current sensing switch.

With its 1 in. housing, the AS1 is a compact unit that enables users to monitor an energized circuit in tight spaces. The easy-to-use ring design easily slips onto a conductor to detect currents as low as 0.5 amp with a single conductor pass, eliminating the need to wrap conductors multiple times.

The AS1 has 24 in. leads that can be connected directly to controller input terminals or brought out to a terminal block to facilitate remote operation. The contact can control either AC or DC circuits to 120 v, with a maximum load capacity of 150 mA. There is near zero off-state leakage providing positive indication of the presence of alternating current, and the output easily handles the coil of an oil field quality relay.

This current sensing switch is powered directly from the monitored circuit to monitor and report electric motor load status, identify open heater circuit connections, and independently verify that a load is energized. It is also suited for confirming current flow to and operation of lighting and other equipment such as fans, heaters, pumps, or other AC powered devices. It is rated for use in ambient temperatures ranges of –4o to +122o F.

Updated unit helps produce tamperproof records

A new update for the nVision Reference Recorder—an intrinsically safe, modular device for recording pressure and temperature—focuses on data integrity and user safety.

Now, users wanting tamperproof digital records may use CrystalControl—the PC interface software included with the nVision—to export data into an industry standard, digitally signed PDF format.

Administrative users will be able to create a custom start-up screen that displays each time the nVision is powered on. A user must acknowledge the message before using the unit, by pressing a button. This feature makes it possible to clearly tailor an nVision to specific tasks, allowing customers to replace outdated equipment without changing existing procedures.

The unit is rated IP-67 (submersible up to 1 m). It is able to record 500,000 data points of temperature, pressure, current, or voltage at 10 readings/sec with up to 0.025% of reading accuracy in nearly any environment, the company points out.
