Gas systems expansion part of Virgina governor's proposals

Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell called for an expanded natural gas system as one of seven legislative proposals aimed at making the Old Dominion the Energy Capital of the East Coast. The proposal would allow gas utilities to expand systems as necessary when a project developer commits to at least a 5-year contract, he said at a Jan. 5 press conference in Richmond. US Sec. of the Interior Ken Salazar and Bureau of Offshore Energy Management Director Tommy P. Beaudreau have said a lease sale off Virginia was not included in the proposed 2012-17 US Outer Continental Shelf program because the state does not have enough infrastructure to support nearby offshore oil and gas activity.
