New frac pump

The new SPM Destiny QWS 2800 frac pump comes with patent-pending Duralast fluid end technology designed to double the life of Fort Worth-based S.P.M. Flow Control Inc. fluid ends.

With 2,800-rated input bhp and 273,000 lb maximum rod load rating, this pump is ready for harsh pumping applications, the company says. A 10 in. stroke delivers higher flow output and improved overall pump operation when compared with an 8 in. stroke equivalent pump, the firm ploints out.

The pump has a one-piece stay rod design that connects the fluid end directly to the power frame for enhanced durability and operation.

The high horsepower rating, coupled with the pump's output capability, means fewer units on site.

Software update accelerates seismic trace attribute

The second update release of the Paradigm 2011 application suite provides accelerated computation of seismic trace attributes through use of NVIDIA Maximus technology.

This implementation enables seismic interpreters to calculate seismic trace attributes at their desktop in interactive or reduced times to quickly recover structural or depositional features from seismic data.

NVIDIA Maximus technology combines the visualization and interactive design capability of NVIDIA Quadro GPUs and the high-performance computing power of NVIDIA Tesla GPUs in a single work station. Its CUDA parallel computing platform and programming model help suit it for high-performance computing performed by this firm's advanced image enhancement tools.

By accelerating the calculation of seismic trace attributes, interpreters can evaluate new work flows and practices to gain more from their seismic data investment, the company notes.

New control software release

A new release of aspenONE advanced process control (APC) helps process manufacturers to operate units close to peak performance while simultaneously generating closed loop data suited for calibrating APC models.

The new functionality eliminates aggressive step testing while preserving the economic benefits of Aspen DMCplus applications, the firm notes.

New Configuration Wizards help make it easy to configure DMCplus controllers to calibrate APC models. This is an example of incorporating special knowledge in the software to enable best practices by first-time users.

The new release also upgrades the performance of the firm's adaptive modeling by automatically slicing out bad data resulting from problematic proportional-integral-derivative (PID) loop conditions—including valve saturation, PID mode changes, process upsets, and bad measurements. This helps improve control model fidelity.

The company says that these improvements hlep enhance the value proposition of DMCplus software by improving the synergy between multivariable predictive control, intelligent data selection, and closed loop model identification. This helps make it easier to maintain accurate models as plants change over time.

Pneumatic level switch now fits 2 in. NPT coupling setups

Improvements in the 1540 pneumatic level switch construction allow it to fit all 2 in. NPT coupling installations.

The new design also offers a higher pilot pressure option that lets users choose a pressure that fits their application.

The option was added to handle higher pilot pressures to as much as 80 psi. Now users can choose between the 30 psi version and the 80 psi version to better match system specifications.

The enhanced 1540 meets all 2 in. NPT coupling installation requirements without interference from process buildup. The float is extended farther into the vessel without changing any of the external dimensions, which means that users can retrofit their old installation with the new 1540 option and still use existing piping.

New surface logging technologies

Two new technologies help cut the time it takes to sample and view well data. Dual flame ionized detection (dual FID) technology is a high-speed chromatograph, and live logging is a real-time cloud-based system that allows operators and geologists to interact with wells from any computer or device anywhere during the drilling process.

Dual FID's high-speed 36-sec chromatograph improves on the current industry average of 45-65 sec, the firm says.

Live logging allows for instantaneous interaction that helps optimize the well construction process.
